Deworming/ Flea and Tick Preventative Program

Puppies- Under six months old-  I deworm my pups at 2,4,6,8 wks and then every 3-4 weeks until they are 6 months old. *  I use either Panacure /Safeguard for Goats if they are small (dose is 1 cc per 5 lbs of dog wt),,, or Horse formulation for pups over 50 lbs. (multiply dogs weight by 3 and that is how much you give of the horse formulation to dog)-All Safeguard products need to be given 3 day sin a row.

Adults- (over 6 months old) - I do the following regime 4 times per year (quarterly )  on a repeating type basis.
Month 1-I deworm my dogs with Cattle injectible Ivomectin,,, I give it to them orally at a dose of 1 cc per 100 lbs.
Month 2- I deworm with Piperazine or Panacure or Pyrantel
Month 3- Do NOT use anything.
Month 4 you repeat the above.

***If you see blood or mucous in stool immediately deworm with Safeguard/Panacure and then repeat in 3 weeks, then start the above protocol again.

Dosage I use-  Cattle injectible Ivomectin- 1cc per 100 lbs of body weight.  This dose will kill gut parasites and heartworms.
Panacure (Horse Safeguard)- For adult swissys I use 1/3 of a tube (1000 lb horse dose tube) for 3 consecuitive days.
Horse Pyrantel is one cc per 20 lbs of body wt.

Flea and Tick  Control- I use Advantix or Frontline plus for fleas and ticks every 3-4 weeks Mar - Nov.  Do every 4-5 weeks in winter months.

The idea of my program is to protect my animals from fleas, ticks and heartworms at a miminal dose of pesticides or systemic toxins that could wreck their immune system and overal health.

Always make sure to stagger the dosage dates so the dogs are not getting dewormer and flea/tick products the same week.
