How we got into Vallhunds-

We got our first Vallhund, Sunny,  KingsCrest Sunflower,  in 2008.  I had wanted an inside dog that had the temperament of a large dog and would not be intimidated by our larger Swissys.

When I was researching the breed,  I really liked two Kennels,  Castleavery Kennels, Irish,  and Starvon Kennels, British.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that Rebekah James had imported her girl Tia from Castleavery Kennel in Ireland and only lived about two hours from us in North Carolina.

We started communicating with Rebekah and we selected Sunny for my first foundation Vallhund.  What a girl.  She is fun, bright,  and very mischievious.  She finished her Championship before 18 months. She finished her Grand Championship at age 3.    Thank You Rebekah and Robert James for all your help and support... Could not have had such a wonderful experience without  Sunny.

We have pictures of Sunny below and as you can see she is not a wall flower,,, she fits in with our Motto that "Our Dogs are into Everything".

According to everything I have read they are a primitive dog and can be hard to house break.

We went out of our way to get Sunny out as a pup and really expose her to a new place or experience every week up until she was a year old... All this work paid off with dividends... She is very self confident and outgoing.

In our experience she had to be let out during the night at least once until she was about six months old and then she stopped having to go out until morning.   The other thing we did is that we NEVER left Sunny unattended in the house for the first year of her life... if we left the house she was put into a crate with a chew toy or left out in a secure yard.  We never gave her the opportunity to use the bathroom in the house.  Again this hard work paid off and we have had very little house breaking issues.

As you can tell we love her.  She has the temperament of a well adjusted German Shepherd.  She is eager to please, virtually unbreakable and is very athletic for those of us who like to do performance things with our dogs.

Look at the pics below of Mom- Sunny,,, Dad-Bo,  and their beautiful puppies from her first litter.  All are in wonderful homes.

Sunny's breeding soundness exam results are as follows:
Hips- OFA Fair
Elbows- OFA Normal
Eyes- Normal

Our Second Vallhund girl

While I was at the Vallhund National Specialty in the fall of 2011 I was looking for a breeder that had some very nice dogs with a slightly different pedigree that I could use in my ongoing breeding plans.   Personally,  I like what I have and the phenotype exhibited but wanted to expand on the genetics in my breeding program.

One of the many Dogs not related to my lines that stood out was Debbie Tapp's Toby.   He is not only beautiful but also throws as nice or nicer than himself and he also throws pups with working drive and attitude.

When Debbie Tapp told me about her upcoming litter out of a Toby daughter,  I was thrilled.

We are calling her Mill Creek's Sudnly Shinning Star.   Special thank you to Sharon, Dexter's mom,  who graciously lost the arm wrestle contest for Star and let me take her home.  I had a sore arm all the way home. <VBG>

Star is a beautiful pup.  Her temperament reminds me of the little chicken hawk that is always bothering Foghorn Leghorn.  She is a bundle of energy and is fearless in any new situations. Never takes NO for an answer.   She is a brat and I love her attitude. I hope to show her in conformation and performance events.

If all turns out,  hopefully she and my boys will make some very beautiful pups sometime in the future.
